Benefits of Dance
Dance is more than simply a performing art. For many, including students and staff at ASDC, it is a lifestyle, an outlet and a passion. Enrolling your child in dance classes is the most generous gift you can give them, because it offers them life skills and experiences both on and off the stage. Dance is a sport, requiring training, endurance, strength and discipline and it teaches its students focus and commitment
Dance enhances physical health by improving muscular strength, motor fitness, cardiovascular health and increasing flexibility, coordination and agility. However, dance not only improves physical health, it can also significantly improve mental health. For many, dance is used as an outlet for stress, sadness or anxiety and dance studios become a safe space for freedom and expression. Rhythmic movement is known to release endorphins in the brain, endorphins are chemicals which decrease pain perception and trigger a positive feeling in the body, also known as the happy hormone.
Dancers are trained to perform confidently and gracefully on stage, which translates into their everyday lives. Dance improves confidence in people of all ages, teaching dancers to live their lives outside the studio, with self-assurance and gusto. Along with improving personal skills, dance also improves interpersonal skills. Dancers learn to communicate with their peers and become members of a team. Dance classes foster healthy environments to build long-lasting friendships, while also encouraging individuality and self-expression.
